Stormwater Runoff Can Be A Major Problem If Not Properly Maintained

Stormwater runoff is a major problem in large cities. Runoff pollutes the major waterways and can get into drinking water. It can also contain many chemicals including motor oil, antifreeze, fecal bacteria, and other harmful chemicals. Stormwater runoff is something that must be monitored and controlled properly to prevent poisoning of animals and people in the area. The polluted water runs over the gutters and drainage ditches and runs into the rivers, canals, creeks, and even into the ocean. These are dangerous chemicals that are not good for anyone. A major cause of stormwater runoff pollution is unmaintained city drains. Drainage ditches need to be maintained and cleaned out every so often, which can be difficult with budgets being cut. Everyone can do their part to help prevent stormwater runoff pollution by not dumping chemicals into drains, and watching what they do in their driveways and yards.
